Hundreds of psychiatric trainee nurses are demanding clearance from the ministry of finance to enable them commence work.
The group as part of measures to express their concern picketed at the Accra psychiatric hospital earlier on Wednesday.

Spokesperson for the group, Emmanuel Geyevo told Citi News that they are tired of being at home without jobs.
“We had our national service done 2014 and ending December 2014 but up till now we’ve still not been cleared. Whenever we come to the Ministry of health or the Mental health authority, they tell us that clearance has not been released by the Ministry of Finance,” he said.
Emmanuel Geyevo added that “we’ve been very patient. We’ve waited for them since the beginning of this year till now, we’ve still not been cleared. Meanwhile, general nurses and midwives have been posted and they are going to work. They are filling their salary forms to get paid, meanwhile, we psychiatric nurses have not been cleared let alone be posted.”
In a related development some psychiatric nurses of the Pantang Midwifery School are also demanding that the Ghana health service post them immediately, since their colleagues from other health facilities have been posted.
A member of the group, Havor Wisdom in an interview with Citi news said “our problem is, some of our colleagues have been posted while some of us have not been posted. So we want to know why they did that.”
“We are under bond, and we took allowances from them so instead of posting us, they are posting the private students. We are in the house, we don’t have any job, we completed 2014 last year. They only called about 30 of our colleagues meanwhile we are about 200. Today we when we did a follow up and went to the ministry, they showed us a book that our names are not in, so we don’t know when they we will be posted,” he added.
