The Minister for the Interior, Mark Woyongo is in Brazil at the invitation of Contracta Engenharia Company to inspect some of their Prisons facilities built for the Brazilian Government with pre-fab technology.

This is a follow up on the promise made by President Mahama when he recently visited the Nsawam Prisons to support the effort of the Ministry and the Prisons authorities to decongest all prisons.

The Interior Ministry’s plan is to relocate the Kumasi and Sekondi Central prisons and to provide a prison facility for the Upper East region sited in Bolgatanga.

The Minister is accompanied by the Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee for Defence and Interior, Fritz Baffour, the Director General of Prisons , Matilda Baffour- Awuah, a member of the Prisons Council, Nana Baffour Okumanin and three other officials from the Ministry and the Prisons Service as well as officials from Contracta Engenharia Company.

The delegation visited several model prisons constructed by the company through pre- fabricated technology at the Itatinga District of Sao Paolo .

After the inspection, it was agreed that exchange programmes among prison officials of the two countries be planned in the spirit of mutual cooperation.

The two parties agreed to engage each other to work out the construction and architectural designs in Ghana, taking into account the environmental, cultural and financial implications.
