The Marine Police Unit of the Ghana Police Service has arrested twelve (12) persons for using illegal fishing equipment for fishing.

In all, a total number of seventeen (17) generators and thirty-six (36) lighting bulbs attached to long cables, were retrieved from the suspects.

The suspects were returning from normal fishing expedition, when the Marine Police patrol team spotted and arrested them. The twelve, who were arrested in three different operations, admitted their offences upon interrogation.

The Marine Policing Unit wishes to caution people using illegal methods for fishing, especially those in the fishing communities to desist from the practice, as the Unit will not countenance with any acts of lawlessness on our waterways.

Meanwhile, the Police are conducting further investigation for the necessary action.
