The Concerned New Patriotic Party (NPP) members in the United Kingdom are warning that the party risks defeat in the next presidential elections if it’s flag bearer Nana Akuffo Addo does not make a conscious effort to unite members.

[contextly_sidebar id=”de6fhG4Poadj45eGXvx1I0ahHwoY5fdx”]According to the NPP UK group, failure to immediately unite the party will have dire consequences in the 2016 elections.

Speaking to Citi News the leader of the group, Nana Kwesi Effah stated that “there is a division in the party that we can see from far.”

He said, “that is not the way the NPP was established as a party.”

“If I can say, some years back we had the spirit of unity but it is no more there and we are just left with about 15 months to election. The friction between Nana Addo, Kwabena Agyapong and Paul Afoko… discourages us and we don’t like that,” he added.

Disunity in NPP

A planned meeting with the NPP’s National Chairman, Paul Afoko and General Secretary, Kwabena Agyapong with some party executives in the Upper East Region was marred by some youth in the area.

The youth had accused Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyapong of organising the meeting without the knowledge of the then party’s Upper East Regional Chairman, Adam Mahama.

Few days after the scuffle, Adam Mahama died after he suffered acid attack while on his way home from work.

Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyapong were accused of masterminding the attack while Gregory Afoko, the brother of the party’s National Chairman, was arrested.

The issue caused a lot of confusion and also brought purported deep rooted divisions  in the party to bare.

It is believed that there is disunity in the rank and file of the NPP especially between the flag bearer, Nana Akufo Addo on one side and Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyapong on the other side.

Some party members have condemned the division and called for peace to prevail.

The National Womens Organiser of the NPP, Otiko Djaba blamed the unrest in the party on what she said is a “demon of confusion.”

Meanwhile, the NPP in May in organised a one week fasting and prayers aimed at cleansing the party.
