Voting in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primaries in the Korle Klottey and Kwesimintim constituencies in the Greater Accra region have been suspended.
This follows a court injunction placed on the election in those areas.
Seven constituencies were expected to hold their primaries but currently, only five constituencies are organising the primaries because of the new development.
Citi News’ Fred Djabanor reported that though the venue was set and delegates ready, the members from the Electoral Commission were absent.”
He said some NPP executives he spoke to told him that “the EC was served with an injunction yesterday [Friday] preventing them from supervising the election.”
The injunction was served after one of the candidates in the constituency, Nii Noi Nortey was accused of presenting a fake University of Ghana certificate to the party’s vetting Committee.
Meanwhile, addressing delegates at the venue on Saturday, Nii Noi Nortey said he has forgiven those who dragged the matter to court.
He also called for calm among the delegates.
“I will plead with all of you to exercise restraint. Your vote is in your heart and head. If they say they won’t allow us to vote, we will go. But when all is said and done, we will come and vote. I have forgiven those who has filed a court case against me,” he added.
In the Kwesimintim Constituency, Citi News’ Obrempong Yaw Ampofo reported that one of the candidates, Joseph Mensah secured an injunction banning the election from taking place following reports that he [Joseph Mensah] had been disqualified from the race.
The other constituencies voting include Tema Central, Obom Domeabra, Kintampo North and Juabeng.
