The Ministry of Interior in consultation with the Northern Regional Security Council (RECSEC) has rejected calls for an extention of the curfew hours in troubled Bimbila.
The curfew hours were reviewed following deadly clashes between some aggrieved butchers and emissaries of the Bimbila Regent.

Residents in Bimbila Township and its environs are required to stay indoors from 4pm to 6am.
This, according to distressed residents of the area is affecting their socio-economic activities.
They therefore pleaded with government to relax the curfew which was rejected at a joint meeting between the Ministry of Interior, the Northern Region Security Council (RECSEC) and the Nanumba North District Security Committee.
It was resolved that relaxing the curfew hours will be ill-informed in view of the dire situation.
Deputy Minister for Interior, Hon. James Agalga, some security capos representing the Regional Security Council and the Nanumba North District Security Committee attended the said meeting.
Intelligence reports revealed that tensions were still high in Bimbila as well as the proliferation of arms.
As Chairman of RECSEC, Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna in a Citi News interview said, “Upon deliberation we agreed that we should still allow the curfew to be the same time though they were requesting for a review of the curfew hours.”
“We still think that it wasn’t safe to review the curfew so the curfew remains the same period from 4 pm to 6 am,” he stated.
Alhaji Limuna said the proliferation of arms in the Nanun Traditional Area matter remained a human security threat.
“There are certain strategies that we are putting in place especially in respect of how to retrieve arms because we realized that if we don’t retrieve the arms there will be tension and the people will continue to be scared.”
