The Association of State Attorneys say they will not back down on their industrial action even though mediation by the National Labour Commission is set to commence to address their grievances.
They argue that calling off the strike will be in contravention of the Labour Act of 1993 Section 161 (1) which states that it is only during mediation or arbitration that a strike can be called off.

Citi News understands that per a directive from the Employment and Labour Relations Minister, the group is to respond within 3 working days to a letter from the National Labour Commission (NLC) on issues it raised in their petition.
President of the Association of State Attorney’s Francisca Titi-Mensah told Citi News that the group will appropriately respond to the NLC’s letter before the deadline.
“There were two issues for the Finance Minister to respond, but the Attorney General was not there. We have been fair with this matter. For the issues of the Attorney General that are crucial one of them is a requirement of law that every worker should be paid pension. So it’s a criminal offence if you are not paid pension. That one has not been brought as an issue. There is also the health insurance issue, and the provision of office equipment. That was also not set out in the issue and the issue of payment of accrued allowances. In our letter, we are going to add these issues that were not set out in the labour commissions letter,” she added.
