The Member of Parliament for La Dade-Kotopon, Nii Amasa Namoale has asked parents to speak in the local dialects at home with their children so that this aspect of Ghana’s culture is preserved.

He said this at the 50th anniversary celebration of Mothercare School in East Cantonments.

[contextly_sidebar id=”9M37qA2QgfXJVyWO1y50gluIkPwtOkPH”]The event was on the theme: “50 years of Holistic Education towards National Development; Advancing Creativity and Technology”.

He also noted that this was prevalent in communities where the people could not speak English, and yet their parents insist on communicating with them in the English language.

He therefore appealed with parents to start communicating in their local languages with their children at home, and explained that when they are in school, they would definitely pick up the English language.

“Most parents cannot speak the English Language and yet it is the only way language they want to speak with their children. If you do not speak the local languages with them, we would lose our heritage as a people. The teachers have been trained very well so allow them to do their jobs”, he remarked.

In attendance at the event was the Member of Parliament for Banda, Ibrahim Ahmed and Municipal Chief Executive of the La Dade Kotokpon Municipality Mrs. Rita Odoley Sowah who all used the opportunity to stress on the need to inculcate into our children, the use of our local languages at home.
