The Electoral Commission (EC) is to start holding monthly Inter Party Advisory Committee (meetings).
This is expected to widen consultations between the EC and representatives of the political parties.
A Deputy Chairman of the EC in charge of operations, Sulley Amadu in an exclusive interview with Citi News in Talensi reiterated the Commission’s intent to implement all recommendations captured in the Supreme Court’s ruling on the landmark 2012 election petition case.
[contextly_sidebar id=”RBhks8ptr03UU7GllgFKnAPXQERDB6i7″]“Almost all the recommendations made by the Supreme Court are basically administrative which we have captured in our reforms: for example the issue of the caliber of officials that we use, presiding officers, returning officers, we are going to make sure we do that.”
According to Amadu Sulley, the EC under the watch of the new Chairperson, Charlotte Osei is
ready to implement proposals which will make the 2016 general elections more transparent.
“In 2016 with the IPAC we will continue talking with the IPAC and what we decided to do is to institutionalize the IPAC meetings so that every month there will be IPAC meeting.”
“We will tell them how we are going and the way we want to go and with that we want to iron out this issue of having projectors at all the collation centres and I think that with that everybody will accept the outcome of the elections.”
He added that the pink-sheet will be simplified to make it easy for everybody to understand how to complete it at the end of polls.
He gave the assurance that the biometric verification machines will be upgraded ahead of the 2016 general elections.
Sulley Amadu thus called for the maximum cooperation of all the registered political parties.
Talensi by-election
Amadu Sulley rubbished the Peoples National Convention (PNC) General Secretary, Bernard Mornah’s assertion that the EC connived with the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) to rig the by- election.
He described the outcome of the by-elections as free, fair and transparent.
He advised Bernard Mornah to use the appropriate channels to address the PNC’s concerns.
