A former National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Talensi constituency in the Upper East Region, John Akologo Tia says he has no intention of contesting the seat in 2016.

John Tia who in 2012 lost the seat to the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) said he had done his part for his constituents.

As Ghana’s Ambassador to Cuba, he exclusively in a Citi News interview described the newly elected Talensi MP, B.T Baba as a worthy successor.

“I think that if the President has recognized that I can serve the nation in another capacity I should appreciate it and continue: so coming back is not something I am considering,” John Tia added.

Known as the NDC’s stronghold, the Talensi seat became vacant following the enskinment of the former NPP MP, Hon. Robert Nachinab Mosore as the paramount chief of the Tongo traditional area.

The governing NDC at a by-election on July 7 recaptured the seat with Benson Tongo Baba as the MP.
