An Accra Circuit Court on Wednesday sentenced one Jerry Quainoo, a Trader to a 15 year jail term for robbery.

Jerry was charged for conspiracy to commit crime and robbery.

Prosecuting, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ernest Acheampong told the Court that the Accra Regional CID received information to the effect that in March this year, Jerry and one Tanee, now at large, had gone to Dzorwulu near Perfect Touch restaurant and snatched a Toyota Corolla taxi from its driver.

[contextly_sidebar id=”mD74OKYI6DS7HvCMDXyu8u7JcnfA2xow”]He said the informant told them that Jerry and his accomplice had sent the taxi to Abeka, close to the Total filling station, waiting for a buyer and had removed the number plate of the car.

The prosecution said the police quickly went to the scene and took the said taxi to the police station and with the help of the informant; Jerry was arrested at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle.

Jerry in his caution statement admitted that he and one Tanee took the said taxi from the Kwame Nkrumah Circle to Dzorwulu and snatched the taxi from the driver near the Perfect Touch restaurant.

During investigations, the Police wrote to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority to request the particulars of the said taxi, which helped them to contact the car owner and the driver in-charge of the taxi.

The driver identified Jerry as one of the people who hired his services but later and snatched the car from him.

The prosecutor called two prosecution witnesses in support of the case and in a cross-examination, the convict openly told the court that he snatched the taxi to sell it.
