About 20 people, mostly school children who had gone to have fun on the Bunso canopy walkway on Wednesday sustained various degrees of injuries after it collapsed.
Chief Executive Officer of Bunso Canopy walkway, Kenneth Akufo has denied claims that the facility collapsed because of weak cables holding it, claiming it was purely “an accident.”
Kenneth Akufo said the accident has nothing to do with how they manage the facility.
“There was an event here yesterday. After the event there was a live band session here. While people were dancing some kids sneaked to the canopy walk area. They broke the gate in order to access the canopy walk. When they were on their second walk it was windy because it was late. So a tree fell and hit the canopy cable but the bridge itself did not break.”
He said “we carry periodic maintenance works on the the canopy either than that people would have died before hitting the ground. In an attempt to run, some of them broke a leg and an arm, but the cables are new.”
Meanwhile, Citi News has gathered the school children who were hurt in the process are receiving treatment at the Oseim Memorial Hospital.
