Minority leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu has called for a united New Patriotic Party (NPP) after the Tamale national delegates’ conference.
“We need to focus on the bigger battle ahead of us in 2016 and stop fighting among ourselves from within,” he advised.
Addressing the NPP’s mammoth national delegates’ conference held in Tamale under the theme, “Our root, our strength, our future,” Mr. Mensah Bonsu condemned what he described as mudslinging in the NPP and therefore called for ceasefire among the power brokers in the party.
“Avoid insults and the use of intemperate language during our internal contest and let us rededicate ourselves to the success of our party,” he said.
He also called for the use of internal conflict resolution mechanisms to address any challenges aftermath the delegates’ conference.
On the election of officers to steer the affairs of the party for the next four years, with emphasis on the General Secretary position, the Minority leader appealed to the delegates to elect a General Secretary whose competence and efficiency will lead the party to victory in 2016.
He pleaded with winners and losers of the elections to rally their supporters for a common course saying, “We need power, we need power, we need power.”
He remarked that the NPP was Ghana’s hope of survival and could not afford to stay in opposition beyond 2016 saying, “the NPP is the party that can salvage the country from her economic challenges and we cannot afford to disappoint Ghanaians in 2016.”
The Minority leader reaffirmed minority Members of Parliament’s commitment to continue with their financial and logistical support to move the NPP from opposition to a governing party in 2016.
He pointed to the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA), massive unemployment, water shortages and the intermittent power cuts to buttress his claim that the NDC had failed Ghanaians.
According to him, the NPP needed majority in Parliament to save Ghana from what he termed as the economic mess created by the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
