Producers of the Key Soap sponsored Heritage Theatre Series have promised that their first show, Wogbɛ Jɛkɛ: The Birth Of A Nation, would rival the south African musical, Africa Umoja, which was a huge success when it was staged in Accra a couple of years ago.

Wogbɛ Jɛkɛ: The Birth Of A Nation, will tell the story of Ghana from ancient times to 1957 in a two hour theatrical spectacle of dance, music and drama. The evening would be lit up with a rich display of Ghana’s culture and history, featuring the legendary stories of historical personalities such as Ndewura Jakpa, Yaa Asantewaa, Agokoli, Kwame Nkrumah among many others.

The producers are sparing no expense at making this an utterly breathtaking production. With a cast and crew of about 150 people made up of dancers, singers, actors, poets, and instrumentalists, this is certainly going to be one of the biggest theatre productions in the country.

Heritage Theatre Series

The series is written and produced by one of Ghana’s outstanding young poets, Chief Moomen, and directed by the BBC award winning playwright, Anima Misa Amoah and Abdul Karim Hakib, a lecturer at the School of Performing Arts, University of Ghana. It is choreographed by international choreographers, Sena Atsuga and Baffour Awuah, a fellow of the Choreomundus International, Norway and supported by a team of theatre professionals from the School Of Performing Arts, University of Ghana.

The production is on Saturday 4th July and Sunday 5th July at the National Theatre with two showings each day at 4pm and 8pm. Rate is 5oghc and 30ghc for children for 4pm shows only.
