The Metropolitan Public Health Department of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), has realised GH₵80,000 from fines imposed on sanitation offenders prosecuted in the 10 sub-metros.

[contextly_sidebar id=”DTRESpnPY1fdU0loA3NezohjThabWULr”]Dr Simpson Anim Boateng, Director of the Department in an interview with Ghana News Agency, said a total of 616 sanitation cases from January to May, were prosecuted while others were cautioned and discharged.

He noted that many people residing in the metropolis do not comply with the bye-laws on environmental health, which are the basis of poor waste management in Accra; hence the need to intensify the sanitation laws to serve as deterrent to others.
