John Obiri Yeboah who was tipped to win because of his popularity in the constituency had 145 votes while Bright Asamoah Acquah polled 54 votes.

However some supporters of Obiri Yeboah were unhappy about the results and reportedly burnt the traditional stools of some chiefs they accused of supporting Kojo Oppong Nkrumah against their preferred candidate.

They also accused the Benkumhene of the traditional area Nana Acquah Frempong and another sub chief, Nana Asabro, of taking bribes from the former Joy FM Presenter.

Narrating the incident to citifmonline.com, a member of Oppong Nkrumah’s campaign team, Kojo Amoabeng recalled that : “immediately they started counting the votes, the guys threatened to beat up our people if Obiri Yeboah loses.”

“They went to the Chief’s Palace and took their stool and burnt it…,”he added.

He revealed that the guys eventually blocked roads leading to Kojo Oppong Nkrumah’s hometown, barring him and his team from entering the town after his victory.

Amoabeng said Oppong Nkrumah and his team however refused to retaliate in the face of the attack.

He pointed out that the youth also “attacked Oppong Nkrumah’s driver and beat him up.”
