Players of the Black Stars together with the technical and management teams on Thursday donated 50, 000 Ghana Cedis (US$ 12,500) to victims of last week’s flood and fire victims in Accra.
The team was at the Goil Filling Station near the Kwame Nkrumah Circle to pay their last respect to the over 150 people who perished when the station was razed down in a huge fire outbreak.
Most of the people who died were seeking shelter around the fuel station during the downpour which flooded and destroyed properties in Accra. Midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang Badu expressed his sadness on the tragic event.
Ghana and Udinese midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang Badu speaking on behalf of the players expressed sympathy to the families of the victims.
“It is very disheartening to see what we have seen here today and my heart goes out to the families of the lost ones. This is what the Lord wants and we can do anything about it,” the player told Citi Sports during the event.
The money the team donated was to aid the government’s efforts to help the families of the flood and fire outbreak.
The Black Stars will begin residential camping on Thursday as part of preparations for the first 2017 AFCON qualifier against Mauritius on Sunday in Accra.
