30 constituencies excluded from NPP’s June 13 primaries

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced that the party’s Parliamentary primaries slated for June 13, 2015 will come off across the country as scheduled but voting will not take place in 30 of those constituencies.

The number has increased from the original 12 that were not going to take part in the voting.

A statement signed by the party’s General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong said “there are a variety of outstanding issues relating to the primaries; which are being addressed.”

[contextly_sidebar id=”ipgGnvD4vK885XSGKLofkCxeVZRhjGc5″]The affected constituencies are in eight regions including the Ashanti, Brong Ahafo, Central, Greater Accra, Upper East, Upper West and Volta Regions.

In the Ashanti Region, the constituencies are; New Edubiase, Akrofuom, AdansiAsokwa, Manhyia North, Juaben and Kumawu

The Brong Ahafo and Central Regions have just the Kintampo North and Upper Denkyira West constituencies respectively.

The Greater Accra Region has 10 affected constituencies including, Dome- Kwabenya, Tema West, Tema Central, Tema East, Ayawaso Central, Okaikoi South, Klottey Korle, Oboom – Domeabra, Ablekuma West and Krowor.

The Upper East Region has Talensi and Upper West Region is Nadowli Kaleo.

In the Volta Region, Ho Central, Nkwanta South, North Dayi, Krachi Nchumuru and Ketu North.

The Western Region has Bia East, Bia West, Juaboso, Akontombra and Kwesimintim.

According to Kwabena Agyepong, the date for the primaries of these constituencies would be announced in due course.

The statement added that in line with article 6 (14) of the NPP constitution, the Electoral College for this election shall be; Members of the Constituency Executive Committee, all Electoral Area Coordinators, the five (5) executives at each polling station, any founding member from the constituency who is a signatory to the registration document of the Party at the Electoral Commission, five (5) members of the Council of Elders and five (5) patrons from the constituency.

The General Secretary announced that “only the registers used for the last 18th October Presidential Primaries shall be used for this election.”

“At Constituencies where at the close of nomination, only one candidate filed, he/she is deemed to have been duly elected unopposed.”

The poll shall be taken between 8am and 3pm.

The party called on all delegates, aspirants and members to conduct themselves in the spirit of party unity at the various polling centres.

“We wish all the aspirants the best of luck,” the statement added.
