A National Memorial Service for victims of the June 3 flood and fire disaster will be held at the forecourt of the State House today [Wednesday] June 10, 2015 at 8.30am.

President Mahama announced a 3-days national mourning period in an address after a National Crisis meeting of the National Security Council.

About 150 people died last Wednesday after torrential rains flooded the capital city Accra and in a inferno which razed the GOIL fire station at the Kwame Nkrumah circle to the ground.

The loss has devastated Ghanaians some of whom lost relatives and friends in the disaster, which has been described as one of the saddest in Ghana’s history.

The service at the forecourt of the state house ends the three days of national mourning declared by the President.

A statement released earlier by the Ministry of Communications said the memorial service will be inter-faith, inter-denominational, and will involve all Ghanaians.

The statement also confirmed the change of venue from the precincts of the GOIL Service Station where the fire disaster occurred to the forecourt of the State House.
