According to the Institute, the virus for now is from bird to bird but has advised poultry farmers to keep their farms clean as well as report strange behaviour by their birds.
Farmers have also been advised not to eat infected birds that die.
Avian Influenza popularly known as bird flu is caused by many different strains of influenza viruses that have adapted to a specific host.
The immediate past president of the association, Kwadwo Asante told Citi News, Poultry Farmers in Ghana heard of the outbreak in some countries about three months ago.
Based on the reports, he said the Ghana Poultry Farmers Association started informing its members to “intensify activities that will not allow the virus to infect their farms so we are aware.”
The campaign, according to him began about a month ago and although Noguchi has confirmed to the Ministry of Agric that the current virus cannot be transferred from birds to human beings, measures are still being taken to protect the poultry farmers and consumers.
