The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Abuakwa-South, Samuel Atta Akyea says members of the party across the country is not guaranteed following the acid attack on the Upper East Region Chairman of the party, Adam Mahama.

[contextly_sidebar id=”exfGVtrXueDLLKPNU0fwnegj2fG7V4Ss”]According to him, the death of Adam Mahama exposes the security flaws in the party and the nation as a whole.

“We are not safe with this kind of scenario. Are you a chairman for this great party, only for the us to mess up in elections or are you a general secretary of such stature for the party to lose? Or you are there to use every God given ordained potential in you to ensure that your party’s fortunes improve in elections. If you don’t see it that way then you are not worth your office. It’s not an ego fight and it’s about time everybody realizes why he is in that office.”

Adams Mahama, NPP’s Upper East Regional Chairman died after being attacked with an acid.

The party has since been unstable but various influential persons in the party including it’s flag bearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, have called for calm.

Though the Police have not yet established the persons in connection to the attack many have pointed accusing fingers at some prominent leaders in the NPP.

Speaking to Citi News, Samuel Atta Akyea called on former President Kufuor and Nana Akufo-Addo to act swiftly to save the party from further troubles.

“You are not there as a general secretary for its sake but you are there to prosecute an agenda, and that agenda is for the generality of the party and also by extension Ghana, because Ghanaians want to see a regime change but you can’t lead the party with this kind of face as if people believe that the offices they occupy are personal.”

“So therefore these two individuals at the moment, the godfather of the party, president Kufour  and the flagbearer of the party, Nana Akufo-Addo should really step into this situation and contention so that we will be able to have some peace in the party,” he added.

He explained that without peace the NPP cannot prove itself as a formidable force to snatch power from the NDC in the 2016 general elections.

Meanwhile preparations are underway to lay Adams Mahama to rest on Saturday.
