The Upper East Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mahama Adams who was attacked with acid has died from his injuries at the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital where he was receiving treatment.
His death was confirmed by his relative and son of the Late Alhaji Aliu Mahama, Farouk Mahama.
Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show, Farouk Mahama said: “I am with a heavy heart this morning, Adams, our only surviving hope in the family is gone and we are very sad and we are all in shock.”
He said it is rather unfortunate that his uncle’s life ended over politics.
“Everybody enters politics with a notion. Adams was not a politician, he was a businessman and because of his closeness to Aliu Mahama, when he died Adams Mahama decided to enter into politics to reincarnate the image of Aliu Mahama.”
Farouk Mahama narrated that he received a call in the early hours of Thursday, that acid has been poured on his uncle who was in the vehicle with his wife.
“Then this morning as at 9:30, I had a phone call from a boy who was by him at the bedside to confirm that Adams is no more.”
Mahama Adam was attacked by two unidentified men on Wednesday while he was returning from work.
The chairman’s aide, Zakariah Osman, said Mahama Adams suffered several burns on his body.
The Upper East Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Thomas Agbanyo told Citi News that the other person who allegedly took part in the crime is on the run.
He explained that the Police are withholding the name of the person arrested for security reasons until his accomplice is also arrested.
Meanwhile, the suspect has denied perpetrating the attack.
