Candidates contesting the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary elections in the Wa central constituency of the Upper West region on Tuesday committed themselves to an insult-free campaign by signing a peace pact at the Wa Central constituency office of the party.
The peace pact, which is an initiative if a youth group calling itself “friends of Dr. Bawumia “was to ensure that the parliamentary aspirants campaigns without inflaming passions within the party in the constituency.
It is also to ensure an incident free elections come June 13 when delegates will be electing one out of the five aspirants contesting to lead the NPP in the 2016 parliamentary elections.
Some of those who signed were Osman Abdul Hamid, followed by Mahama Kafrimintain,Tahiru Issahaku Moomin Isaac, Hadi Bawa and the only female aspirant Samsideen jannat Bibii.
Addressing the media ahead of the signing Secretary of the youth group, Hanif Joato called on the aspirants to abide strictly by the dictates of the pact.
He said the youth in the constituency will openly come out against any aspirant who will go contrary to the demands of the peace pact.
“We want to use this opportunity to plead with all aspirants contesting the Wa central seat and those across the country not to falter their campaigns with invective language that may be used against all of us in the general elections. As grass root members of the party, we will be emphatic with our loud voices as we are known to be, to openly distance ourselves from any aspirant who may not conduct his or her campaign towards the larger interest of the NPP” Mr. Hanif Joato warned.
Mr. Joato believes “Ghanaians are yearning for an alternative political party to lead the country because the governing NDC party has failed in the management of the country’s economy.”
The secretary appealed to the leadership of the main opposition party(NPP) to find a lasting solution to the internal wranglings to attract floating voters, saying “Ghanaian will not forgive us as a party if we fail to win the 2016 elections. As individuals, we may have our differences but those differences should not supersede the larger interest of our party.”
