The Greater Accra Regional leadership of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has rejected the report which cleared some  Parliamentary aspirants  who were disqualified by the Vetting Committee.

[contextly_sidebar id=”1uLloUpPG7BO4FeWfEWdgQzAgaN3j15u”]The NPP’s Appeals Committee after deliberations cleared some disqualified aspirants including one Carlos Ahenkorah of the a Tema West constituency to contest the primaries.

Media reports said the aspirants had been cleared to contest the party’s primaries on June 13.

But addressing a news conference on Tuesday, the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the NPP, Ishmael Ashitey said the report of the Appeals Committee does not hold.

He stated emphatically that the Greater Accra regional steering committee made the decision to reject the report.

According to Ashitey, there are a lot of “inconsistencies, a lot of mistakes here and there that we feel we should not allow this report to stand so we are rejecting the report.”

The regional chairman said a letter has been written to the Appeals Committee asking them to be “impartial, fair and objective in their deliberations because we have seen some contradictions here and there.”

After the NPP ended the vetting of all parliamentary candidate aspirants across the country, some aggrieved disqualified candidates were asked file an appeal to get redress.

Notable amongst them was Carlos Ahenkorah who has received massive support from party members in his constituency since the process began.

The Tema West NPP members threatened to vote against the party if their preferred candidate was disqualified.

They were convinced that Ahenkorah is the best candidate to retain the seat for the party in 2016 if allowed to contest the primaries.

The party members further accused the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), Naa Torshie Addo of scheming to get Ahenkorah disqualified.

Mr. Ahenkorah was however disqualified despite protests from the party members on the grounds that he failed to nurture the party at the constituency level.

He told Citi News in a later interview that the reasons for his disqualification were frivolous and gave indications that he will file an appeal.
