Former President Jerry Rawlings has taken a swipe at those attacking the celebrities over their planned “Dumsor vigil” aimed at expressing their displeasure about the worsening power situation in the country.

[contextly_sidebar id=”Yg6e3igdD4WXfa4B1qdUJRw1BzzfEpkQ”]The vigil, which has been slated in Accra on May 16, is being led by the actress, Yvonne Nelson and the rapper, Sarkodie.

The organizers have been attacked by a section of Ghanaians including Founder of Bull Haus entertainment, Bull Dog who has described the vigil as a “dumb idea.“

Some government spokesperson have also criticized the celebrities and accused them of working for the NPP.

But commenting on the issue, the former president explained that though the power crisis may be justifiable raining insults on the celebrities in uncalled for.

“Our sister Yvonne Nelson is expressing her concerns and insults are being rained on her. It’s not fair. Is that how to do politics?” he wondered.

He said: “I have been angered by certain things but I have kept quiet. It’s not money that will rescue us, its not power play that will rescue us but integrity… and humility…in our political activities.”

Jerry John Rawlings made the statement when former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah visited him following his upcoming testimonial match.
