The disqualified New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary aspirant for the Tema West Constituency, Carlos Ahenkorah has described as “frivolous” reasons for his disqualification.
[contextly_sidebar id=”zQGVrIRCsAybX1xJR6UUOcXDD3wsjya1″]The Greater Accra Regional chairman of the NPP, Ishmael Ashitey confirmed to Citi News that Mr Ahenkorah has been disqualified because he has not nurtured the party in the constituency level hence their decision.
Mr Ahenkorah was tipped as one of the aspirants with the capacity to unseat incumbent NPP Member of Parliament for the area, Naa Torshie Addo.
Meanwhile some delegates claim his disqualification was masterminded by Naa Torshie Addo.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Wednesday, Mr Ahenkorah said when he heard the response of the vetting committee he “was a bit taken aback because I find the reasons that they [vetting committee] have given for my disqualification as frivolous and unfounded but I thought that we are working with the system in NPP and I have to abide by the rules and regulations.”
Mr Ahenkorah said he subsequently filed a nine page document with the party’s Regional Appeals Committee to prove his eligibility.
Carlos’s achievement for the party
Mr Ahenkorah further debunked claims that he has not nurtured the party and listed his contribution to the party.
“My response was based on the fact that the nurturing that they have in the form does not necessary mean that you need to give money to the chairmen but whatever impact you make on the ground to improve the fortunes of the party.”
He explained that “my contribution in this constituency spans way back 1992, unfortunately these new people who are executives may not be able to know what I have done and they didn’t take their time to investigate to know who I was and what I have done for the constituency.”
Some of the thing he has done for the party includes, giving relief items residents of Adjei Kojo whose homes were destroyed,.
“when we went to Tamale for the National congress I rented a 23 bedroom hotel for the my regional and constituency executives, for three days all their bills were on me.”
The disqualified aspirant also added that through his benevolence, he was able to foot bills for pupils at the Sakumono Village to school to take part in vacation classes.
“I have done a lot and I believe in the system and I am very confident that they [vetting committee] will look at what I have presented and vindicate me,” he expressed.
