Authorities at the University of Ghana (UG) has warned the organizers of the ‘dumsormuststop vigil’ to desist from using the school’s name in connection with their upcoming activity.

[contextly_sidebar id=”V7egQ7DZmXNeiV8asPx0PZsteiSQUdML”]A statement signed by the Registrar of the school, Mercy Haizel-Ashia said the school has not granted the organizers the permission to use their school grounds for the vigil.

“The university categorically and emphatically states in no uncertain terms that it is not aware of, neither has it granted nor is it in the process of granting permission to any person or group of persons seeking to organize or hold any such procession or vigil on or within any of its campuses,” the statement said.

The school therefore sounded a note of caution to the organizers saying, “the university hereby demands the cessation of all mention of its name and/or campuses in relation to or in connection with any such activity.”

The Greater Accra Police Command on Thursday gave its approval to the organizers to go ahead with their planned vigil aimed at forcing the government to fix the persistent energy crisis.

The group led by actress Yvonne Nelson and rapper, Sarkodie have been championing a social media campaign with the hash tag, #Dumsormuststop.

The campaign is rapidly gaining momentum and the two, together with some persons in the entertainment industry agreed to organize the vigil to allow the general public to participate in order to get the attention of the President.

The vigil/procession was expected to begin at the stadium on the university of Ghana campus and end at the Green Park opposite the Villagio apartments near the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange in Accra.

With this statement from the school, it is unclear what the next line of action of the group will be.

Below is the statement from UG
