3 armed robbers arrested at Teshie

Following a series of reports done by Citi News that highlighted the frequent armed robbery attacks  on residents  at  Teshie Rasta, three suspected armed robbers have been arrested by the  Accra Regional Police Command.

Two of the suspects were arrested at GREDA estates after they robbed a victim on the 30th April.

The other suspect, is also the grips of the Akosombo Police after a manhunt was launched for his arrest.

The Accra Regional Police Commander, DCOP Christian Tetteh Yohonu said: “For some time now, there has been worrying concerns of series of robberies and attacks on responsible residents in certain parts of Teshie.”

According to him, the robberies were being carried out around, Teshie Rasta, TeshieTebibiano, Agbleza, OkpoiGonno, Greda Estates, Fertilizer, Adzorma and its environs.

DCOP Yohonu  said the “disturbing trend also gained the attention of some media houses leading to the adoption of Police proactive and effective measures to clamp down on activities of robbers in that suburb.”

He narrated, “on 30th April, 2015 at about 9:00pm, Michael Kwabena Rockson, 29 who is a taxi driver and Eric Boateng alias Kwabla Kwashie, 22 who is a mobile phone seller and two others now at large met at a location on the Spintex road where they conspired to embark upon a robbery expedition.”

“At about 11:3opm, the complainant was returning home from a programme. On reaching his gate at GREDA Estates in Teshie, the gang onboard a Daewoo taxi cab with registration number GT 4309-15 and armed with a pump action gun, a cutter and an iron bar attacked him with the pump action gun, robbing him of his wallet containing unspecified amount of money.”

“Not satisfied with that, they dragged him into his apartment and also took away his flat screen television set, wrist watches, three mobile phones, two lap tops, ipads and other valuables after which he was subjected to severe beatings. The complainant quickly rushed to the Teshie Police Station where he lodged a complaint,” he added.

Based on this information, the Police patrol team intensified its patrols and combed the area until the they spotted the said taxi cab.

The robbers were then given a hot chase but later abandoned the taxi and fled but one of the suspects, Eric Boateng was arrested.

“After some few minutes Michael Kwabena Rockson, an accomplice in this case also rushed to the station and gave a false report that, his taxi cab had been snatched by armed robbers. However, Police highly suspected him of his involvement in the robbery and got him arrested.  During interrogation, he confessed to the crime mentioned one Alhassan and Yaw Isaac as their accomplices.”

The third suspect was also arrested in Akosombo where efforts are underway to hand him over to Accra Police for investigations to continue.

The suspects have all admitted to the crime and investigations are still ongoing.

The suspects will soon be put before court.

The Police however advised especially those who stay out late to constantly use their back and side mirrors to monitor vehicles that will be trailing them and drive to the nearest police station or snap checks points for assistance.

Arrest of two suspected shop burglars

In a related development, the Accra Regional Police Command rounded up some suspects for burglary.

They are Masahudu HarunaAge, 30 and Abdul Salaam, 26.
