The 2nd National Forum on Single Spine Pay Policy (SSPP) has been set for 8th-9th May , 2015.

[contextly_sidebar id=”Um5lxDK2Umy9kRTYwH4MBqjvUz1Chkvl”]The Forum is being organised by the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations in conjunction with the Ministry of Finance as well as other stakeholders in the sector.

The Forum will be held at the Atlantic Hotel in Takoradi.

A statement signed by Mr Earl Ankrah, Public Relations Manager at the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, said the forum would be under the chairmanship of Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur.

The special guest of honor for the event would be President John Dramani Mahama, the statement said.

It said the event would bring together representatives from organised labour, the Ministries of Employment and Labour Relations, National Labour Commission, Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, Parliament, civil society organisations among others.

Participants would review the implementation of the SSPP with special focus on the recommendations from the Ho Forum and to agree on strategies for the implementation of the second phase which focuses on linking pay to productivity in the public sector, the statement said.

Single Spine to be fully applied in 2015

Finance Minister, Seth Terkper, disclosed that from 2015, the full implementation of the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) will begin.

Since the implementation of the pay policy in 2010, Ghana has seen a number of labour agitations with some workers claiming the policy was causing distortions and variation in their salaries.

The debate over the effect of the SSSS on government’s expenditure increased at the beginning of 2014 when the economy started experiencing major challenges.

While some are calling on government to scrap the policy, others have argued that the salary structure should be sustained.

It is expected that the Forum will seek to find the way forward for the payment policy.
