The new Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Commission Dr.Toni Aubynn says he will advise government to collect wind fall tax from mining companies if conditions are right.

This comes after he rejected demands by government to implement the windfall profit tax during his tenure as CEO of the Ghana Chamber of Mines.

According to him its implementation will discourage investment.

But speaking to Citi business news he said, “we advised, we did not say windfall profit tax wasn’t a good thing, we thought the timing was not right”.

Some industry players have criticized his new appointment suggesting conflict of interest issues considering his position on major policies in his previous post.

But the new Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Commission Dr.Toni Aubynn defended his earlier position and said his position will change based on future market conditions.

He explained that circumstances in the future might change and said , ‘If the conditions change and there is the need for government to get more through any other tax , you can call it windfall tax , super profit tax or super normal profit tax ,whatever you call it , then by all means government has the liberty to do that’.
