President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in the Colombian city of Medellin for the UN sponsored 7th session of the World Urban Forum, where he will be a special guest of honour and keynote speaker.

The Forum, under the theme, “Urban Equity in Development – Cities for Life”, is organised by UN Habitat and hosted by the Colombian Government to explore among other issues rapid urbanisation across the world.

President Mahama will join his Colombian host, President Juan Manuel Santos on Monday, 7th April 2014 for the opening ceremony.

As a champion of Africa’s urbanization agenda, President Mahama will address the Forum on the challenges of rapidly growing cities, and how to prepare for the rapid urbanization of the African continent in particular.

At the 68th session of the United Nations General Assembly, President Mahama on behalf of UN-Habitat led fruitful discussions and debate on Africa’s rapid urbanization, at a side meeting with other African leaders.
