Ayew scores hat-trick to end Marseille’s winless streak

Ghanaian midfielder Andre Ayew admits fans of French club, Olympique Marseille, are very upset with the team’s recent run in the French League.

L’OM has gone through a recent run that has seen them win once in their last 5 matches and even though, they grabbed an impressive 3-1 over AC Ajaccio on Friday at the Stade Velodrome, the supporters were not enthused about previous losses to Nice and  Rennes.

” It’s true that after a victory the fans should be pleased but they are not.

We may have scored very early into the game but the fans were not happy but we understand them. We were winning a few games and we thought we would not see this reactions again.

But they are not satisfied with the three goals we scored tonight”, Ayew said in an interview after the match in which he scored a hat-trick.

He added that despite the unusual nature of the behaviour of the fans, it was quite understandable but the players would strive to end the season on a better note and they began with the victory over Ajaccio.

“We were expecting a very difficult setting just like what we normally we experience away from home but I never imagined it being this intense and strong.

However, we tried hard to remain focused on our objective which was the match.

We got the points on the board and now, we must get ahead of ourselves. A lot of things have not played out well for us this season so we must try and stay on this winning run.”

Marseille travel to Montpellier in their next league match on the 11th April and Ayew stressed the importance of winning before the tricky encounter with the former French champions.

“It was good to have the three points today especially in a tense and delicate atmosphere. It was rather complicated but we got the job the done and it is up to us to now go to Montpellier, get a good result and change the perceptions of our fans.

For us as a team, we are happy with our work tonight and we will focus on ourselves and prepare for  the next match.”
