The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has warned members of the general public to desist from posing as members of a task force, set up to monitor the ban on noise making in the Ga Traditional area.
[contextly_sidebar id=”6zFoHd4Dn7rmWhkDnq64Nm09it7Ac6iI”]This year’s ban on drumming and noise making commences from May 11 to June 11. This was contained in a press statement signed by Sam Ayeh-Datey the Metro Coordinating Director.
There are reports that certain individuals and groups usually pose as the task force and extort monies from individuals and organisations who flout the ban.
The statement explained that the task force consists of AMA personnel, the Police Service and representatives from the traditional and Christian Councils.
The statement further encouraged other religious bodies to ensure that their usual form of worship is confined to their premises, with noise levels minimized to the barest limits possible.
The ban on drumming and noise-making is part of traditional practices towards the celebration of the Homowo festival by the people of the Ga Traditional Council.
Other religious bodies were cautioned to discontinue the “positioning of loud speakers outside the premises of churches or mosques.”
Roadside evangelists are also to cease their evangelism activities during this period.
