President John Mahama has announced that access to electricity in Ghana will increase to 80 per cent after government completes the various electrification projects it is executing.
[contextly_sidebar id=”16dUYYGWGSsPa1xzfZ8bUzVBVYRgaQiv”]According to him, access to electricity currently stands at 76 per cent, noting that Ghana is the second leading country in sub-Saharan Africa with most of its citizens having access to electricity.
During a working visit to Saboba in the Northern Region, the President pledged government’s commitment to increase access to electricity nationwide.
“76% of our people have access to electricity and if we finish the current electrification projects that we are doing, Ghana’s electricity access will stand at 80%. 80% of our people will have access to electricity and I know that the people of this area have not been left out because several communities currently are on the electrification programme,” he remarked.
Listing some completed projects aimed at achieving increased access to electricity, President Mahama mentioned “all the communities from Hilltop to Wapuli – almost six communities have been wired and are ready to receive their electricity. From Saboba to Demong, 10 communities have been electrified.”
He added that his government is working to supply water to most communities in Ghana.
The President disclosed that Ghana has “moved from under 50% water access to almost 70% access.”
Increase of Kokombas representation in gov’t
President Mahama gave the assurance that he will soon increase the representation of Konkomba’s in his government.
He acknowledged that his attention has been drawn several times to the low representation of Kokombas in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration.
“I wish to assure you that just be patient. I am going to rectify that situation and make sure that you are properly represented in this government,” he promised.
