One of the operating units of the Tema Oil Refinery has been shut down following the detection of a fault.

As a result, the refinery process has come to a halt, barely five months after TOR resumed operations.

Speaking to Citi News, the PRO of TOR Aba Lokko said the situation will have dire financial consequences on the refinery.

According to her, the company  which gave the license to operate the plant are in consultation with them and has indicated that such an incident had “never happened anywhere in the world before.”

The entire refinery has also been experiencing some challenges for some time now.

There have been calls for government to allow TOR refine crude from Ghana’s jubilee oil fields but the request was not granted as the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation(GNPC) believes TOR in its current state will not be profitable.

Many have also alleged that government is planning to sell the refinery to some private entities although government has clarified that it has no intention of doing so.
