The Ministry of Transport has requested for a full report from the Ghana Airport Company Limited over last Friday’s power outage at the Kotoka International Airport.
[contextly_sidebar id=”lBLw01rRpcuSfWmxMzEOY0yJraOg4Ll4″]The Kotoka International Airport (KIA) on Friday March 13, 2015, experienced a power outage which occurred at about 6.30 pm and lasted for about three hours.
Officials of the Ghana Airports Company Ltd in a statement on the matter said the outage was traced to a fault in one of the electrical cables supplying power to the southern sector of the terminal, resulting in a cut in power supply to that sector.
Speaking to Citi Business News Chief Director at the Ministry of Transport Twumasi – Ankrah Selby said the Ministry will decide with, airport authorities on the appropriate line of action to take to ensure that the accident does not recur.
“We have requested them to send us a report on what took place but you know it is something no one wants to take place. But I think they have also issued a press statement that it was not because of ‘dumsor’ but a cable fault that caused that particular blackout something their engineers were able to solve, but we want to see a situation that this will not happen again that is why we have request for the report which will inform our decision to ensure that this does not happen again.”
The Chief Director at the Ministry of Transport said the report will be essential in helping the Ministry in its decision because the Kotoka International Airport is an important national assert.
