The Ministry of Communications has called the bluff of Chinese firm Star Communication Network Technology Company Limited over its intention to sue Ghana at the international arbitration court for the termination of its contract to implement Ghana’s Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) Migration Project.
[contextly_sidebar id=”gKmDZd9C9BemtkbKfg4wAAMJe0FR8J9V”]The Chinese firm announced moves to hit the international arbitration court after a commercial court in Ghana recently threw out their case seeking to place an injunction on the implementation of the digital migration program in Ghana following the abrogation of their contract by the Communications ministry.
But speaking to Citi Business News Deputy Minister of communications Ato Sarpong said government was ready to face the Chinese firm.
“We have not received anything yet but we are aware of their intent of going for international arbitration so we are just waiting for them, where ever they want to take us to resolve this matter we will meet them. We think we have a strong case, they have no case and they want to take a sovereign country like Ghana for a ride and its time we indicate to all bodies be it local or international that we will not allow ourselves to be taken for ride again as a nation.”
The Deputy Minister of Communication said the Ministry was committed to ensure that in the process of migrating to the DTT platform Ghana gets value for money while ensuring that the right procedures are also followed to ensure that the laws of the country is not bridged.
He said the Ministry is convinced that whatever it is doing, is the right thing and will meet the Chinese firm anywhere they take the country on the abrogation of their contract on the DTT migration project.
