According to Dr. Mahama, government has failed Ghanaians in all sectors of the economy, hence his call for change to salvage the economy.
“Ghanaian institutions, civil service, public service, social security, education and health services are not working well.”
The PNC Flagbearer was speaking at the Tamale Chief’s Palace as part of his campaign tour of the Northern Region.
Dr. Edward Nasigri Mahama laid emphasis on the health sector and slammed government over what he described as the poor handling of the outbreak of the Pneumococcal meningitis which claimed over 100 lives in the Bono Ahafo Region and other parts of the country.
“For example, the Pneumococcal meningitis outbreak killed almost hundred people. You can prevent it with the vaccines so we shouldn’t have gotten more than 30 victims but the reaction of the health service to this epidemic was less than desirable.”
Dr. Edward Nasigri Mahama promised to fix the nation’s innumerable socio-economic challenges when elected President at the November 7 polls.
“The new beginning is that the PNC and I want to restructure all the services to be responsible to the people of Ghana.”
He explained his decision to stage a comeback in the 2016 Presidential race saying, “Anybody God has put in the position of leadership must be appointed by God. A number of them said that this election in 2016 is a cross-road for Ghana and they see the possibility of violence.”
“Even before the importation of terrorists on both sides of the camp and so they encouraged me that I have a rational voice and so I should get involved.”
Dr. Edward Nasigri Mahama further took a swipe at government over the importation of huge tons of rice into the country.
“Currently the country imports rice to the tune of $600 million which is undesirable and so we must change.”
He implored chiefs in the Northern Region to rally their support behind him to revamp the agric sector.
