La-Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly (LaNMMA) Sanitation Task Force, has arrested 18 shop owners and traders for failing to participate in the 18th National Sanitation Day Cleanup exercise.
The culprits were made to pay penalties ranging from GH¢ 20 and GH¢ 100 in accordance with LaNMMA Sanitation By-Laws.
The fines collected totaled GH¢ 1,303.00.
In an interview with Ghana News Agency, Mr Joseph Quacoe, the Municipal Environmental Health Officer said despite the downpour on Saturday, April 2, the exercise went ahead at Ritz Junction, Atomic Junction, Zongo Junction and Social Welfare.
The exercise also covered Randy Pharmacy, Rawlings Circle, Madina Estate, Social Welfare and Madina lorry parks and markets.
The LaNMMA Assembly provided refuse trucks to cart refuse and desilted materials from the drains.
Mr Quacoe said the Madina Concerned Citizens Association, Assemblymen, Unit Committee Members, the LaNMMA Staff and Zoomlion workers, a sanitary management company as well as traders and market women participated in the exercise.
Mr Franklin Anku, LaNMMA Municipal Chief Executive and Alhaji. Dramani Saaka, Municipal Co-ordinating Director supervised the exercise.
