The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has clarified issues relating to the recently approved electricity tariffs.

This comes just days after consumers alleged that the ECG appears to be charging more than the increases approved by the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC).

[contextly_sidebar id=”JzfCGlYiyjcexYmSwwDF1tvvpbTVXCtz”]Electricity tariffs were increased by 59.2% and water by 67.2% in December 2015, but consumers claimed they were being charged more than the approved charges.

Some consumers have also accused the ECG of wrongful deductions.

But the ECG in a statement explained that the tariff increases which took effect in December 2015, was purely based on “energy consumption and service charges and not the other cost and credit elements that are included in billing customers.”

ECG in a statement updated Ghanaians on subsequent developments.
