Hiplife musician, Kontihene, has promised audience of Citi FM’s Decemba To Rememba Concert a great performance on December 24, 2015, at the Accra International Conference Center.
The man whose songs have sometimes been described as timeless, reiterated his position that he makes the best songs, stating with optimism that 2016 is going to be a great year for him.
Speaking on Citi FM’s Traffic Avenue ahead of the Decemba To Rememba Concert, he noted that he was in no rush to release more songs since his current songs remain competitive.
[contextly_sidebar id=”CUcTbOLNkGRrczYUMPMoweP8aK68x33j”]“I’m not in a haste to release more songs. ‘Dedede’ will still compete and ‘Clap For Me’ will take over 2016. I think it’s going to be my year; my songs are going to make strong inroads.”
He further stated that his songs are the best one can find around, reiterating that not even Sarkodie’s songs can compare to his.
Responding to suggestions that he is sounding boastful and proud, Kontihene said it is important for every artiste to regard his or her own work higher above any other person’s work.
“I’m not a PR for any artiste. I am selling myself as an artiste; If you think your hometown is not nice, mine is. My songs are better not only that Sarkodie but even that of Jay Z and everybody because I am marketing and promoting my product,” he explained.
Kontihene, real name Emmanuel Nana Appiah Boateng, pioneered the brand of ‘jama’ based hiplife with his acclaimed 2002 debut album, Nyankonton, which had the song of that year, Aketesea.
He had been out of the limelight for some years although his old songs were still relevant, and got music lovers on their feet anywhere they were played.
Kotihene later made perhaps one of the greatest comebacks last year with his hit track ‘Etuom Esum’.
He says artistes ought to be more creative to be relevant considering the competitive nature of the industry.
“Competition is very good because it makes you strong. It makes you acknowledge that there are other people out there. We don’t have to do music because people are giving us pressure. We have to do it in our own will, in our own time and we have to enjoy it too; let’s give our artistes time.”
Ahead of the D2R concert, the Opoku Ware alumnus believes preparation and fan satisfaction are paramount and must be taken serious by artistes.
“Events are like having a football match. You have to prepare and make sure that you are going out there to win. People are going to pay money, hard earned money to come and enjoy themselves so you should give them something in return. So that is the burden on me… you really have to give them the worth of their time and their money.”
Kontihene thus promised to wow audience at the concert.
“They should meet me at the conference centre on the 24th and I think I will give them a nice present in the way of performance and good music.” “All I want people to know is that, Kontihene is on, I’m coming in full force.”
