A joint military and Police swoop at Aflao on Thursday night almost turned violent after residents took to the streets to protest the death of one of their colleagues.
The deceased jumped into the sea and drowned, trying to flee from the security forces who invaded one of their hideouts in Atisukope; a suburb of Aflao.
The residents were angered by the incident and rebelled against the security officers and attempted to prevent them from arresting them by throwing dangerous items at them.
Some of them also took to the streets to protest, blocked some roads in the area and burnt lorry tires to express their anger.
Speaking to Citi News the Volta Regional Police Commander Peterkin Gynae confirmed the incidence but said calm has been restored.
Citifmonline.com has gathered that the security forces were initially deployed to Aflao following growing concerns by some residents over the alarming spate of criminal activities in area.
