The Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Nana Oye Lithur has described the appointment of Charlotte Osei as Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) as an inspiration for women.

President John Mahama has appointed Charlotte Osei as EC Boss to replace Dr Kwadwo Afari-Gyan, who retired after serving for 22 years.
Speaking to Citi News, Nana Oye Lithur said the new EC boss will not disappoint Ghanaians because she is “diligent, hardworking, focus, experienced and knowledgeable.”
“Very importantly, I congratulate the President for reposing confidence in women. He is the first president to have appointment this high number of women into public office and it is a very big achievement because we know the challenges and the difficulties and also how sensitive the role of an Electoral Commissioner is.”
She said “for me it offers inspiration, it offers hope and it will catalyze a lot more women. It will offer inspiration for millions of girls not only in Ghana but the length and breadth of Africa so that they will also climb and seek to achieve serving their country.”
She said Charlotte Osei’s appointment will also offer a lot of inspiration for millions of women and girls for Africa adding that “this is very historic.”
