Sachet water producers have hinted of an increment in the price of the product from next week.
The producers say the continuous depreciation of the cedi, the current energy crisis, high cost of utility bills, coupled with the recent upward adjustment in petroleum prices has necessitated the move.

The chairman of the sachet water producers in the Ashanti Region, Cedrick Akwasi Baafi told Citi News, the rubber which they use in bagging the water is imported “and because they are imported, anytime the cedi value goes down, the prices go up.”
He however indicated that no definite decision has been made and the percentage at which the price will be increased is also yet to be determined.
“We haven’t arrived at any conclusion. At the moment, it is at the initial stages so it’s under consideration,” he said.
Citi News’ Ashanti Regional Correspondent, Hawa Iddrisu spoke to some sachet water sellers and consumers.
Some remarked that they will have no problem when the prices are increased but they were worried that consumers will not buy.
“It is not a problem for those of us who sell but people will not buy it at 30 pesewas. Even at 20 pesewas, people do not buy so this will not work. They should sell the bag at GHC 3 so we can buy so we can sell a sachet at 20 pesewas. 30 pesewas is too expensive.
A consumer was also of the opinion that due to the unavailability of the 5 pesewa coin, the producers are forced to make huge increments.
“They can’t even sell it at 25 pesewas because the 5 pesewas coin is not available.”
