The Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party(NPP), Nana Akufo Addo has stated that the death of Adam Mahama is a blot on the country’s democracy.
[contextly_sidebar id=”dgeTdPMGggyH1sRb1ZpMJjqUx8fpKnxz”]Speaking at the funeral of Adam Mahama who died on Thursday from an acid attack, Nana Addo said “Ghanaian democracy has no want for violence and this despicable, bastardly act that is taking place has been a blot not only on our party[NPP] but also on our nation’s democracy that we have as a people.”
He asked the party to learn from what has happened, adding that “violence cannot be a way of resolving political disputes in our country…”
He advised the party to rather pitch their strength in the competition of ideas and surge forward rather than resorting to violence to resolve issues.
“Our party has stood for ideas in the beginning. Even in the difficulties days, in the early difficult days , the ideas that animated the founders of our movement which are today’s ideas and the world is caught up in their ideas that Ghana should be a democratic state, governed by the rule of law. That is what they fought for and that is what we are trying to establish today,”he said.
Adam Mahama was buried last Saturday at Bolgatanga in the Upper East region.
