President Mahama has said his government will ensure that persons responsible for the death of Adam Mahama face the law.

Expressing his condolences on Twitter, the President condemned the attack, describing it as barbaric.

Horrified @ murder of UE NPP Chair Adam Mahama. Nothing can justify such barbarism. Condolence to wife & family. There’ll be justice.– JM.

[contextly_sidebar id=”Ptwq19lE0USocI3At3PFN7CSkkUUhGZm”]The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Regional Chairman passed away last Thursday after he was attacked by two unknown persons.

He was laid to rest last Saturday at Bolgatanga in the Upper East region but the party’s General Secretary and Chairman Kwabena Agyepong and Paul Afoko were absent.

It is unclear whether earlier threats banning the two from attending the funeral rites informed their decision to be absent.

Factionalism breaking NPP

Many have attributed Adam Mahama’s tragic death to seeming factions within the party and have called on the leadership of the party to address the issue.

The Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South earlier asked the leadership of the NPP to quell tensions within.

“I do not understand why a general secretary or a chairman of the party should have a tiff with another serious member of the party. Is it a personal undertaking or we are looking at the bigger picture,”  Atta Akyea stated.
