The general elections in Nigeria have began but election materials arrived late at many polling stations visited, including in Abuja, according to the Vanguard newspaper.
As at 8:40 am Nigeria time, a large turnout of voters waited patiently as election officials were yet to arrive with the materials.
A similar scene was noticed at area 1 when the Vanguard correspondent visited the station there.

Fourteen candidates are contesting the elections but one of the two is most likely to win according to analysts.
Goodluck Jonathan’s People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has dominated politics in Nigeria since 1999 the main opposition, the All Progressive Congress (APC) is giving them a race for their money in what is widely regarded as the closest presidential race since the end of military rule in the West African country.
