The Greater Accra Regional Communications Director of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) has emphasized the need for the Chairman of the party, Kofi Portuphy to be maintained as National Disaster Management(NADMO) Boss.

There have been several calls for the resignation of Portuphy as the Coordinator of NADMO after he was elected national chairman of the NDC.

[contextly_sidebar id=”Lwllrq1PcMjDPViD50MGyX6P3YMEJGF0″]The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2014 demanded  the immediate removal of Portuphy from his position as the Coordinator for NADMO.

A Political Scientist, Dr. Amoako Baah  has also asked government to compel Portuphy to resign.

He argued that government’s decision to maintain him as the NADMO boss is a clear violation of Article 78, section 3 of the constitution.

However speaking to the Media at a workshop for the Communicators of the party in the region, the Chairman of the Greater , Jerry Johnson stressed that Kofi Portuphy’s continuous stay in office as NADMO boss does not violate any law in Ghana.

“Which article in the 1992 constitution has he violated?Which clause in the public services act has he contravened?”

He further described claims that Kofi Portuphy’s appointment was unconstitutional as hypocritical and unconstitutional, adding that the New Patriotic Party(NPP) has no basis for criticising him[Portuphy] since the party did a similar thing during the appointment of its party’s executives.

“…Where were there when the NPP executives were appointed to almost the same position,” he quizzed.

“We think that this hypocrisy and display of ignorance especially from some of our law makers that we use our tax payers money to pay must stop.”

Mr. Portuphy was elected the National Chairman of the NDC in 2014 while he was still serving as the National  Cordinator of NADMO.
