After 27 years , the final funeral rites of the late Yaa-Naa of the Dagbon Tradition area, Mahamadu Abdulai of the Abudu gate will be held.
This follows an agreement by the Northern Regional House of Chiefs that the funerals rites should finally be performed latest by March 31, 2015.
Also, the funeral rites of the late Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani II who died in 2002 during the Yendi clashes will be performed.
This has over the years deepened the feud between the Abudus and Andanis in the Dagbon Traditional Area in the Northern Region.

Counsel for the Northern Regional House of Chiefs, Fatawu Yakubu exclusively revealed this to Citi News during a day’s capacity building workshop organized for women chiefs in the Region.
According to lawyer Fatawu Yakubu, a five point resolution on solving the Dagbon chieftaincy crisis in which issues about the funeral rights for both eminent chiefs dominated the discussions and were subsequently adopted at the last meeting of the Northern Regional House of Chiefs.
“The five points resolution has been forwarded to all the chiefs concerned, all those who are required to take any necessary actions, they have all received their copies… Indeed most of them were present in the house when the resolution was passed.”
He said, “… We are currently working towards kick starting the process so that the funerals can be performed by the deadline which was given which is 31stMarch, 2015.”
Minister for Chieftaincy and Culture, Dr. Seidu Da-Naa called for an end to what he described as the “needless conflicts in the Northern Region.”
“Let us not pretend, our problems in chieftaincy in this part of our country will not go away unless we sensitize the bulk of our people: after today’s workshop it should be possible that next time round we take it to Dagbon not just paramount chiefs but all those who matter to get together and let them understand issues involved in the day and the evil effects of conflict,” he lamented.
He said government was committed to find a permanent solution to the Dagbon chieftaincy crisis.
