Kofi Portuphy overwhelming beat incumbent Dr. Kwabena Ajei at the party’s just ended delegates congress in Kumasi in the Ashanti region on Saturday.
Mr. Portuphy polled 2,457 as against Dr Kwabena Adjei’s 316 votes.
“Today is victory for the NDC, its victory for all of us. Together we will deliver with all your support,” Portuphy told delegates at the Kumasi sports stadium where the partys National Delegates Congress was held.
Mr Porturphy contested the position together with Dan Abodakpi, a former Minister of State and Dr. Kwabena Adjei who has held the position for two terms.
The fourth aspirant, Alhaji Huudu Yahaya withdrew from the race at the eleventh hour, to throw his weight behind the victor, Mr Purtophy.
Mr. Purtophy is currently the head of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO).
